A Guide To Training Your Pug The Right Way

Raising a pug can bring you a lot of joy and love into your life. It can be tough work when you bring home a puppy. Training is absolutely necessary. Use the tricks written here and you will surely be able to train your pug easily.

If you want to teach your pet to use a crate, first try these simple tricks. If your pug doesn’t want to enter the crate, put a chew bone inside the crate, then close to door. Your pug will want the bone and will be unable to resist entering the crate. Praise your pug once he gets into the crate.

It is best to train your pug in a crate that is the right size. Do not forget that all puppies will grow up. Choose a crate that is sure to be the right proportions for the adult pug you will eventually have. The pug should have plenty of room to turn around and lie down without being crowded.

Commanding control is the very first step in training your pug. Your pug must see you as a leader, or they will not follow your commands. When walking with your pug, always walk first, never let your pug lead, as this is the leadership position.

You can train a pooch to roll over fairly quickly if you have some treats to hand out. Initially, try to get your pug to lay on the floor. The next step is to hold a treat close to the floor by the pug’s head then continue to move the treat over his head until you reach the other side. He’ll follow your hand and roll over completely. Whenever your pug does actually roll over, say “roll over” out loud. Repeating this over time forms a mental association in your pug’s mind that eventually causes him to roll over on command. Never become frustrated if it does not happen right away. Once he does learn how, he will be a celebrity among other pugs.

Puppy power! You’re ready to start training today. Be patient and be sure to reinforce positive behaviors with praise and treats. You cannot expect to master these tips in mere days, but as long as you stay dedicated, you can succeed in training your pug.
